Listen and repeat using your name.

In Spanish, when two L L's are together the pronunciation sounds similar to the English 'Y'. me llamo = "me yamo")

Look at how some famous Spaniards introduce themselves:

Hola, me llamo Fernando		Hola, mi nombre es Julio		Hola, soy Antonio		Hola, me llamo Isabel		Hola, soy Raúl

Listen and repeat.

Now look at the personal information of some of the above personalities and complete the box with your own details.

apellido = surname nacionalidad = nationality edad = age

 

Why so many names? In Spanish, the first surname is taken from the father and the second from the mother. The surnames of both the man and the woman are kept after marriage. You often see compounds of two or more first names (José Luís, Francisco Javier, etc.)

Study the following questions and answers:
 

Question marks in Spanish are placed at the beginning  (¿) and at the end  (?) of a question. The same happens with exclamation marks: ¡Hola!. In Spanish, the accent mark you see above some words indicates the intensity of the pronunciation of the syllable.

Listen to the previous questions and answers and notice where the stress is marked. Listen again and repeat. Try to copy the pronunciation.
