The "i" and the "y"

Listen to the following words which contain the letters "i" (called i latina in Spanish) and "y" (called i griega in Spanish)

· How does the "y" sound when it is at the beginning or in the middle of a word?

The "y" and the "ll"

Listen to the following words which contain the letters "y" and "ll"


Llorar		Playa		Lluvia		Yogur		Gallina

Most Spanish speakers pronounce the "y" (when it goes at the beginning or in the middle of a word) and the "ll" in a very similar way*

*In Argentina, the "ll" sound is pronounced differently. It sounds like "sh" ("shorar", "shuvia", "gashina")

Listen to the sentences and write "i", "y" or "ll" in the corresponding gaps.

The imperative is used to give instructions, orders or to tell other people what to do.

The imperative only exists in the PRESENT tense.

When giving orders, it's common to use exclamation marks. (Remember to use two exclamation marks in Spanish. An inverted one at the beginning "¡" and a normal one at the end"!")
