We
say
'cien' only when we refer to the number
'100'. For all other cases use
'ciento'
- La bicicleta roja cuesta cien euros y la verde
ciento siete euros.
The red bike is a hundred euros and the green one is a
hundred and seven euros.
The
numbers from 200 to 999 agree with the noun they refer to.
- El libro vale doscientos quince euros y
tiene trescientas ochenta páginas.
The
book costs two hundred and fifteen euros and it has three
hundred and eighty pages.
Notice
that hundreds and tens are NOT joined with a "y"
- 470 = "Cuatrocientos setenta" / "cuatrocientos
y setenta"
'Mil'
(thousand) doesn't change for any amount. However, 'millón'
(million) is only used in the singular when we speak about 1 millón.
For all other cases we use the plural 'millones'.
- 1000 = 'mil', 5000 = cinco mil / 1000000 = 'un
millón', 5000000 = 'cinco millones'
In
Spanish, a 'billón' is a million milion (that is, a one
followed by twelve zeros)
In
Spanish, the full stop (.) is used to separate
thousands and the comma (,) is used to separate tens.
- 1.000 = 'mil' / 215.312 = 'doscientos quince mil
trescientos doce' / 24,50 = 'veinticuatro con cincuenta'
